AI In Education

 AI in Education

AI in education is becoming a bigger thing. AI is Artificial Intelligence. AI can complete human-like tasks, more so that are technology related. It is everywhere nowadays. Teachers are using AI to help support their lessons and students. However, there are so many different websites and tools that educators can use with AI that it can be overwhelming. I myself haven't used AI too much. I understand many things have AI built into it now. Such as Instagram with their “Meta AI”, but that’s about it. I would love to learn about more tools I can use in the classroom to support my planning and students' learning. With that being said, I took some time to explore three different AI tools for educators and I am going to share with you my thoughts!

MagicSchool AI

Last school year, one of my colleagues presented on MagicSchool AI. She highlighted so many cool and fascinating things that it could do. I couldn’t wait to use it! I book marked the website right then and there in the staff meeting. But then I never really opened it again. Therefore, I thought this would be a great one to start my exploration with.

What is it?

MagicSchool AI is an AI tool that can be used by both teachers and students. The amount of options MagicSchool AI has is insane. There are so many cool features for teachers to utilize. It has things like, song generators, rubric maker, writing feedback, text levelers, and report comments generator (just to name a few).  For students, there are things like a character chatbox. You can put in a character from a book and students can pretend to have a conversation with that character and ask it questions. I can see this being such a fun tool to use in the upper elementary grades! Students in book clubs could use this tool as a center rotation. There are also things like, text proofreaders, sentence starters, book suggestions, and many different types of study support.

My Thoughts

MagicSchool AI I loved the most of the three resources I explored. It is a free website. There are options for paid upgrades however, everything I mentioned above is included in the free version. There are so many tools in it that I and my students can use on a daily basis. I also like it because the teacher can customize what tools are pushed out to their students. Students don’t necessarily have access to all the tools all at once. You can share the assignment/AI tool via a link, Google Classroom, or QR code. The options MagicSchool AI offers you are endless. It seems as though they want to make you incorporate their website into your teaching as easily as possible. This is something I would like to start incorporating into my classroom this week!

Teach Aid

What is it?

Teach Aid is an AI tool that is used to create units and lesson plans. It also has tools to create final assessments, rubrics, intro activities, student activities, and closing activities. Pretty much it can create a whole lesson for you or parts of a lesson if you only need a certain piece. You are able to select your grade level, content area, state, and then the standard you are working. It will generate plans for you. Whatever you create is then kept in your Teach Aid library for you to use again at a later time.

My Thoughts

This is a pretty cool AI tool to help teachers create units or stand alone lesson plans. It even has learning outcomes and objectives written for you which is super helpful! My district has learning intentions posted and honestly sometimes coming up with them can be a pain, so I really like that feature. However, this is only a teacher facing resource. There isn’t anything really for students. Teach Aid also has a paid version for $13 a month that offers way more resources such as being able to generate unlimited lessons, find resources others have created, and being able to edit what is already generated for you. If you refer your admin to the site, you can gain educator access. So teachers can gain premium access if their administrator joins. Overall, I can see myself using this tool to generate some lessons or learning criteria. However, I wasn’t super crazy or impressed by the tool.

Canva

What is it?

Canva is a website used to design things like infographics, posters, worksheets, flyers, and more! It is something that I use ALL the time both personally and professionally. I have used it to make newsletters, calendars for my classroom, things for my wedding, and more. Canva can also be used with students for their own creation which can be super fun! Canva has an AI feature. I love Canva and already use it all the time so I wanted to explore its AI tools.

My Thoughts

Canva offers many AI tools however they are not necessarily educator specific like with Magic School AI or Teach Aid. But, there are tools that teachers will definitely appreciate. Canva has AI tools you can use in your classroom like QR code generator, a translator, voice overs, and slides generator. Canva also has a premium version that is free for educators if you use your school email address. Therefore, you get access to everything! I just heard recently that Canva translator is one of the best translators right now, so I want to start using it to translate all my messages home to my students' families. Like I said, I use Canva often, so I would love to continue to use it to make other tasks like creating QR codes or translating text as easy as I can. I know many teachers use Canva, I wonder if they will ever have AI tools specific for teachers?

Accessibility in the Classroom

What is Accessibility?  Accessibility is something that is available to help technology users use the technology more easily. This is not just something available for students. All sorts of technology has accessibility features. Even the Iphone you use has accessibility features. Simple things such as increasing your font size or what the side buttons on your phone do are accessibility features that you may not even realize you use.  Accessibility for Students Students need to have access to a variety of tools that will make them successful in the classroom. Majority of students today have a device they use daily. Within the device there are things called accessibility features that allow students to access technology conveniently. All technology has accessibility features, it is up to the user (or in education sometimes the teacher) to turn these features on.  Majority of my teaching career (in my old district) I used Apple products. My students had iPads and I ...

Digital Tattoos Part 2

Digital Tattoos Doing a data mine on myself is kind of nerve wracking for me. I was a little nervous to see what information was out there about myself. I am someone who keeps all their social media accounts private. At one point in my life, I didn’t have my last name on any of my social media accounts. When I first started teaching, I didn’t want it to be easy for my students or their families to find me on the internet. So now, I am very interested to see what is out there about me! When doing the data mine, I put my findings into a chart to show what was found on that site. Green represents that site had it and red means the site did not.  Source: Created by Blog Owner Google My first search was in a Safari browser using Google. I searched my name “Ashley Pesch”. Immediately pictures of myself popped up and I was nervous. However, I realized most of the pictures that popped were from my wedding website (which is public). Google was able to show my teacher Twitter/X account and t...
