Technology's Impact

 Examine your Relationship with Technology

My Overall Relationship with Tech

Technology is a big part of my life. I use technology for all sorts of things. My district is a one to one district so I use technology daily for my job. I am currently taking online graduate school classes therefore I use technology for my own education. I use technology to create and organize things for my upcoming wedding. I also use technology in my personal life for fun like scrolling on Tik Tok or using my Kindle to unwind and read. I am not going to lie, I do feel like I use technology too much. Especially once you write it all down and see how much you use it. It makes me take a step back and realize maybe there is something I can do about that.

The Tool that has my Heart

There is a certain piece of technology that holds more meaning to me than others and that would be Instagram. Instagram is a social media platform where users can post pictures, videos, create, and message. This app has not always been my favorite but in the last few years it has made its way to the top of my list.

Instagram has had a positive impact on me for many reasons. This app used to just be a place for me to post the highlights that are going on in my life. I feel that is what most social media is used for, to highlight things and show the good going on in your life. I am not going to lie, I do still post highlights of my life on Instagram. I just posted about my Fiance and I buying a house. We posted the typical cute picture of us standing in front of our new home with the keys. However, I find myself posting more than just highlights. I post things going on during my day to Instagram stories.

One of the main reasons this app has a positive impact on me, is that it allows me to keep in touch with friends and family. More specifically, my cousin who is like my sister. She currently lives in Japan with her husband as he is in the military. There is a fourteen hour time difference between here and Japan. We make a point to schedule video chats often  however Instagram is a primary way for us to communicate even with the time difference. I am able to see snippets of her daily life as she posts on Instagram and she is able to see snippets of mine. We use Instagram messaging to share posts and videos with each other. I love waking up to a new message from her and it’s an Instagram Reel. It just shows she was thinking of me. Even though she is so far away these little things only make our relationship stronger as we still get to be a part of each other's lives daily even if we are not actually talking to each other. Now, I truthfully don’t think I can go a day without checking Instagram to see what my family is up to.

Another reason Instagram has had a positive impact on me is its Reels. Reels are short videos that people share on Instagram to share a number of things. It can be recipes, work outs, crafts, and more. As someone who is getting married and on a budget I have relied heavily on Instagram Reels for inspirations for my wedding DIY projects. There are many brides who share their journey and it has been so helpful. It has been something that keeps me calm because nine times out of ten I can find something close to what I am looking for.

If you are looking for a social media that has a variety of ways to stay connected, Instagram is the way to go. Looking to get started with Instagram? Check out five ways you can use Instagram!

Accessibility in the Classroom

What is Accessibility?  Accessibility is something that is available to help technology users use the technology more easily. This is not just something available for students. All sorts of technology has accessibility features. Even the Iphone you use has accessibility features. Simple things such as increasing your font size or what the side buttons on your phone do are accessibility features that you may not even realize you use.  Accessibility for Students Students need to have access to a variety of tools that will make them successful in the classroom. Majority of students today have a device they use daily. Within the device there are things called accessibility features that allow students to access technology conveniently. All technology has accessibility features, it is up to the user (or in education sometimes the teacher) to turn these features on.  Majority of my teaching career (in my old district) I used Apple products. My students had iPads and I ...

Digital Tattoos Part 2

Digital Tattoos Doing a data mine on myself is kind of nerve wracking for me. I was a little nervous to see what information was out there about myself. I am someone who keeps all their social media accounts private. At one point in my life, I didn’t have my last name on any of my social media accounts. When I first started teaching, I didn’t want it to be easy for my students or their families to find me on the internet. So now, I am very interested to see what is out there about me! When doing the data mine, I put my findings into a chart to show what was found on that site. Green represents that site had it and red means the site did not.  Source: Created by Blog Owner Google My first search was in a Safari browser using Google. I searched my name “Ashley Pesch”. Immediately pictures of myself popped up and I was nervous. However, I realized most of the pictures that popped were from my wedding website (which is public). Google was able to show my teacher Twitter/X account and t...

AI In Education

AI in Education  AI in education is becoming a bigger thing. AI is Artificial Intelligence. AI can complete human-like tasks, more so that are technology related. It is everywhere nowadays. Teachers are using AI to help support their lessons and students. However, there are so many different websites and tools that educators can use with AI that it can be overwhelming. I myself haven't used AI too much. I understand many things have AI built into it now. Such as Instagram with their “Meta AI”, but that’s about it. I would love to learn about more tools I can use in the classroom to support my planning and students' learning. With that being said, I took some time to explore three different AI tools for educators and I am going to share with you my thoughts! MagicSchool AI  Last school year, one of my colleagues presented on MagicSchool AI . She highlighted so many cool and fascinating things that it could do. I couldn’t wait to use it! I book marked the website right th...
